This document has been reviewedby W3C Members and other interested parties and has been endorsed by theDirector as a W3C Recommendation. It is a stable document and may be used asreference material or cited as a normative reference from another document.W3C's role in making the Recommendation is to draw attention to thespecification and to promote its widespread deployment. This enhances thefunctionality and interoperability of the Web.
This document has been producedby the W3C SVG Working Group aspart of the activity of the GraphicsActivity within the W3C Document FormatsDomain. The goals of the W3C SVG 1.0 Working Group are discussed in the W3C SVG WG Charter(11 November 2000 - members only). The W3C SVG Working Group has maintained apublic Web page http://www.w3.org/Graphics/SVG/which contains further background information.
The SVG Working Group believesthat all features in the SVG 1.0 Recommendation are implementable due tosubstantial implementation experience with generators, viewers and transcodersbased on the SVG specification, the amount of SVG content that has beendeveloped to date, and interoperability results against the SVG conformance test suite. Areport on implementationstatus was made at the end of the Candidate Recommendation review period. Theimplementation results are publicly released and are intended solely to be usedas proof of SVG 1.0 implementability. It is only a snap shot of the actualimplementation behaviors at one moment of time, as these implementations maynot be immediately available to the public. The interoperability data is notintended to be used for assessing or grading the performance of any individualimplementation. It is intended that this report will be updated from time totime by the follow-on activity that oversees the SVG Recommendation.
There are patent disclosures andlicense commitments associated with the SVG 1.0 specification. These may befound on the SVG1.0 Patent Statements in conformance with W3C policy.
This version of this documentincorporates some editorial changes from earlier versions. A list of changes since the Proposed Recommendation specificationof 19 July, 2001 is available.
